We believe it all starts with you, at your place, with your ideas, your questions and your aspirations about what your home means for you and your family. Your Place will evolve over a series of conversations centred around the principle that great ideas will come from delightful and unexpected places. Together we will create a conscious and sustainable home, one that connects you with your context, community and landscape with a gentle hand. You are the key to unlocking a unique response to your site, one that balances whimsy with intent, intrigue with restraint and function with comfort. We cant wait to collaborate with you.

Your Place Architecture is a collective of wonderful creative minds guided by Director Julian Badman. With experience designing and delivering a range of residential, public and commercial projects, Julian encourages a conversational design process with a firm belief that great relationships deliver excellent architecture. Julian is an Architect and multi-disciplinary designer with a deep love of ceramics, performance art and set design. His work is always collaborative, weaving together the talents of local craftspeople and artists who challenge and enrich his design responses.

Process

Our process is designed to keep you involved in an active design conversation at every stage of the project. These are “kitchen table meetings” where everyone has a pen in hand and we let our ideas roam free.

Your Place Architecture believe that professional design advice should be accessible to everyone for any project large or small. Our contribution to Your Place can be anything from a single conversation about your kitchen design, through to full design services for a new home. Our design process is broken down into distinct phases, each designed to enrich our understanding of your aspirations for your home. We will guide you through each phase with a spirit of open communication and care as we navigate one of the most wonderful challenges your family will undertake.

Project Phases

  • This is an orientation and briefing phase that is critical to understanding the project. Here we will assemble as much relevant information about your project as we can, discuss your aspirations for the project and get ourselves ready for a exciting journey ahead.

  • During this phase we will develop your aspirations for the project into a concept design. The aim is to spark your imagination and give you an idea of what we can create together.

  • In this phase we will develop the concept design and develop the 3d expression of your home. Here you will see an idea come to life and your home being to take shape.

  • We will prepare your design for lodgment to your local Council. This will involve a coordinated consultant team as we address the requirements of your site.

  • During this phase we will prepare a set of detailed drawings for your future builders.

  • This is the phase of the project where all the planning and ideas make their way into reality. We love watching your projects come to life and we love supporting you and your builder through this process.

    Director

    Julian is a multidisciplinary designer working in his spare time with ceramics, furniture design, cinematography, and performance art. In contrast to the immediacy and temporal nature of these artforms, Julian delights in the permanency of architecture and its enduring influence over our sense of place and space. Julian seeks clarity and simplicity in his craft and believes that design should distil a world of influences to a pure, simple expression. He works to balance function and beauty in equal parts, leaving only that which we cannot do without.
